An Emperor Penguin and three chicks, photographed in Antarctica...
Weighing up to 37 kb (87 pounds), the Emperor is the largest living penguin species. In the wintertime they trek up to 120 km to reach breeding colonies. They aren't currently endangered, but are highly sensitive to climate change.
They are such fasinating creatures. I saw a short video of a cameraman seeing a penguin drop his egg into an ice crack. Since they are in such a desolate place, there's no one to harm them. So the cameraman reached through the cracks and grabbed the egg. He put it right next to the penguins feet and that penguin accepted it. The penguin didn't act fearful or curious about the human, he just accepted the egg. I thought that was interesting.
